I'm gonna say 1 non-period-specific gun and box of ammo, and only if it was on his person at his canon point. Six-shooters and knives are basically free, you can get 'em from the starter jail supply. He can pick up as many of those as he can carry. If he wants something fancier, he'll have to find the right vendor and spend points/favors/talk real pretty to get the good stuff :D
